The Obesity Code
This is a book that I stumbled upon early last year as I was searching for information about intermittent fasting. It is written by Dr. Jason Fung, a Canadian nephrologist (this is a doctor who specializes with the physiology and diseases of the kidneys). Dr. Fung is a world-leading expert on intermittent fasting and low-carbohydrate diets, and in treating people with type 2 diabetes. Dr. Fung has written three books, and has co-founded the Intensive Dietary Management program.
Much of what I have learned about intermittent fasting has come from reading this book. Dr. Fung explains in a very appropriate and thorough way, how to do this with success. He also explains all of the 'dietary science' surrounding this. Much of what I will be sharing will stem from the book, with some other pieces of information brought in from other sources which I will share.
One of the surprising things you will learn is that dietary fat is NOT the cause of obesity, heart disease or chronic disease. Do you want to know what is the real cause? It is all of the sugars and starches in our Western diet which raises our insulin levels, and exacerbates our insulin resistance.
Dr. Fung explains that obesity is a hormonal disorder. Yes, that's right, hormonal. He details his findings and successes in proving this out.
I cannot urge you strongly enough to read this book if you're someone who is looking to get really healthy, lose weight, turn the tide of your type 2 diabetes, and make some knowledgeable and lasting change.
